May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists to showcase the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more folks to give biking a try.
The Oakland Public Library has bike-themed events planned all month long, starting with hosting an Energizer Station for Bike to Work Day today, May 8th, at the Lake Merritt BART Station. OPL’s Mobile Bike Library (did you know they had one?) will be at City Hall’s Energizer Station.
This Saturday, May 10th, talk and ride with bike book author Elly Blue from the Chavez branch to the 81st Avenue branch.
Other bike events at libraries include a Bike Mechanics Workshop at the 81st Avenue branch Saturday, May 17th and a Scraper Bike Program Saturday, May 31st at Main.
Plus, show your library card at participating bike stores from May 1 through May 31 and get 10% off parts and accessories.
Visit www.oaklandlibrary.org/biketoaction for the latest information on Bike Month events and participating bike shops.
