Next Tuesday, October 2, author Vanessa Hua will be reading from her new novel, A River of Stars, at the Montclair library from 6:30-8:00pm. Bring your book club!
Hua is a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and the author of a short story collection, Deceit and Other Possibilities. For two decades, she has been writing, in journalism and fiction, about Asia and the Asian diaspora.
Her debut novel, A River of Stars, features a pregnant Chinese woman who makes her way to San Francisco’s Chinatown and stakes a claim to the American dream. NYT bestselling author Celeste Ng calls it “utterly absorbing,” Publisher’s Weekly says it’s “heartbreaking…hilarious…wonderful” and Booklist describes it as an “astute debut novel that confronts identity, privilege, freedom….with poignancy, insight, humor, and plenty of savvy charm.”
