Celebrating 100

Books for the 100th Day of School, a list by the Friends of Montclair Library

Today, February 6th, is the 100th day of school for Oakland school kids. Here are a dozen books at Montclair and elsewhere in OPL to help celebrate the big day:

100 School Days by Anne F. Rockwell (J PICBK ROCKWELL – not at Montclair)
The students in Mrs. Madoff’s class keep track of the days they have been in school, marking each interval of ten, until they reach 100 days.

100 Things That Make Me Happy by Amy Schwartz (J PICBK SCHWARTZ – not at Montclair)
Lists a wide variety of items, from red socks to peekaboo, that can make one happy.

Happy 100th Day! by Susan Milord (J PICBK MILORD)
Graham Elmore hates school, but as the year progresses toward the day that is both his birthday and the hundredth day of school, Graham’s reading improves, and so does his outlook.

100 Ways to Celebrate 100 Days by Bruce Goldstone (J 513 GOLDSTONE)
100 ideas for celebrating the 100th day of school, from collecting to counting, baking to bouncing, reading to writing.

Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten by Joseph Slate (J PICBK SLATE – not at Montclair)
To celebrate one hundred days in Miss Bindergarten’s kindergarten class, all her students bring one hundred of something to school, including a one hundred-year-old relative, one hundred candy hearts and one hundred polka dots.

Let’s count to 100! by Masayuki Sebe (J 513.211 SEBE)
Illustrations with one hundred things in them — including mice, people, elephants and more — introduce the concepts of numbers, few, many and counting by tens.

Jake’s 100th Day of School by Lester L. Laminack (J PICBK LAMINACK – not at Montclair)
Jake is so excited about his 100th day of school, he runs to catch the school bus without his project, but fortunately, with the help of his principal, Jake is able to find a perfect substitute for his project.

One Potato: A Counting Book of Potato Prints by Diana Pomeroy (J 513.211 POMEROY)
A counting book which uses images of fruits and vegetables to illustrate numbers from one to one hundred and which also includes an explanation of how to do potato printing.

100 Days of School by Trudy Harris (J 513.211 HARRIS)
A series of rhymes illustrates different ways to count to 100 such as by adding the ten toes of ten children or ninety-nine train cars plus one caboose.

Richard Scarry’s Best Counting Book Ever by Richard Scarry (J 513.211 SCARRY)
Introduces the numbers and counting from one to one hundred as Willy Bunny counts all the things he sees in one day.

From One to One Hundred by Teri Sloat (J PICBK SLOAT)
Illustrations of people and animals introduce the numbers one through ten and then, counting by tens, move on up to 100.

Emily’s First 100 Days of School by Rosemary Wells (J PICBK WELLS)
Starting with number one for the first day of school, Emily learns the numbers to one hundred in many different ways.
