This week at Montclair Library: November 3-9, 2014

Quote about writing from Toni Morrison

November 1-30
November is National Novel Writing Month – and the library is a great place to write your novel! It’s nice and quiet, especially in the mornings (except Thursday mornings storytimes!), and you can go distraction-free, use the free WiFi to research your book (or procrastinate), and get inspiration from all the published books around you. “Come Write In!”

Author talk with Michael Goldstein – 6:30-7:30pm
In Return of the Light: A Political Fable in Which the American People Retake Their Country, it is the night of the Winter Solstice in 2120. At one of thousands of community gatherings across the United States, a storyteller does the annual retelling of how, back in 2023, a decade-long movement culminated in the people taking over their own government, making it a means for mobilizing their collective power to promote peace, social justice, and a society hospitable to the needs of the human spirit.

Part vision of the road forward for today’s concerned citizens, part organizing tool, this novel is a wonderful source of hope and inspiration.

Michael Goldstein blogs in the Huffington Post and OpenSalon.com, focusing on the need to move beyond the teeter-totter of the two-party system and the means to do so. Goldstein works as a mediator and death-penalty appeals lawyer in Northern California.
