Where do we go from here?

Save Oakland Libraries is hosting a brainstorming meeting for all library lovers about the budget shortfall.

Starting in July 2015, the Oakland Public Library’s budget will be short by $2.5-$3.5 million per year. Unless the City steps up, Oakland Public Library will have to either:

* Close 6-8 branches, OR
* Stop buying books/movies and close 3 branches.

The City Council placed $500,000 in the OPL’s Reserve Fund as a start toward filling the gap. So where do we go from here? All library lovers are invited to a workshop to review our short- and long-term sustainability options; find out what WE can do, and brainstorm ways to draw public and media attention to this impending funding crisis.

WHEN: 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24
WHERE: Main Library, 125 14th St., Brad Walters Community Room (downstairs)
WHO: YOU, and every library lover you know!
