Get ready for summer reading with the Oakland Public Library! This year’s theme is “Reading is So Delicious!”, and there will be fun activities and prizes for readers of all ages between June 15-August 10, 2013. • Friday, June 21, 2013 – 3:00pm – Paper Airplane Day
  Learn to how make and fly paper airplanes.
• Wednesday, June 26, 2013 – 1:00pm – Dan Chan the Magic Man
  Watch your wallets! This magician, juggler, and escape artist is also an expert pick pocket.
• Saturday, July 13, 2013 – 2:00pm – Decorate Flower Pot & Plant Seeds
  Come decorate a flower pot and plant them with the paper seed quarter you will earn for your four-hour reading prize!
• Saturday, July 20, 2013 – 1:00pm – East Bay Vivarium
  A long-time favorite of Oakland children, East Bay Vivarium’s reptile show always amazes.
• Saturday, July 27, 2013 – 1:30pm – Insect Discovery Lab
  Explore the fantastic lives of beetles, millipedes, tarantulas, walking sticks, whip scorpions, and more! Don’t miss this hands-on lab.
• Thursday, August 8, 2013 – 10:30am – Bubble Lady
  This show really pops! It’s crazy, zany, super silly, and tons of fun. Be wowed as we follow the Bubble Lady to “Bubbleland” and participate in a musically enhanced bubble-making adventure.

Tuesday, July 16, 2013 – 6:00-7:00pm – I Scream Sandwich!
Local culinary writer and consultant Jennie Schacht will discuss her new book I Scream Sandwich!. Schacht redefines this hugely popular sweet treat and shows us how it can easily be the star of a dinner party, child’s birthday bash, family picnic, or just a lazy summer afternoon. She will have her books to sell and sign, including Farmer’s Market Desserts and The Wine Lover’s Dessert Cookbook. There will be a period for questions and answers, then we will partake of ice cream sandwiches.
