Today is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s birthday. Born May 22, 1859, Doyle is of course best known as the creator of pioneering crime fiction featuring detective Sherlock Holmes.

The Montclair Library Mystery section has classic Doyle stories like The Complete Sherlock Holmes and The Great Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, as well as Holmes-inspired works like Barry Grant’s Sherlock Holmes and the Shakespeare Letter and Garment of Shadows: A Novel of Suspense Featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes by Laurie R. King.

Or learn about The London of Sherlock Holmes from author Michael Harrison.

If you’d prefer to watch your Holmes on a screen, check out the BBC’s series “Sherlock” on DVD or the 2010 “Sherlock Holmes” movie featuring Robert Downey, Jr. as Holmes.
